Last night I watched my recording of Tuesday’s BBC2 Horizon programme on the progress of the development of fusion power(if you missed it watch it with iPlayer) . Professor Brian Cox has presented previous Horizon programmes on such topics as the structure and meaning of time. He has an unusual style which works quite well.
The basis of the programme was that we want to replace fossil fuel with other forms of energy production to prevent/slow global warming. Could that be fusion energy - the energy of the stars and the hydrogen bomb?
From what Brian Cox presented it may be a possibility but it certainly doesn’t look like we’ll be having domestic fusion power devices down the garden or in the cellar anytime soon!
For the full article please see fusion power.
The easiest way to stop global warming for the next 5 or 10 years is to do nothing. The PDO will take care of us. In fact most of the warming from about 1980 to about 2000 was likely PDO caused.
But if you want fusion more quickly may I suggest this:

Thanks to Mr Simon for his comment and for introducing me to DPF (Deep Plasma Focus) fusion.
Mr Simon refers to PDO. What is PDO? I would interested in references explaining what it is.
Usefully his links took me to
Fusion Future which has some well written explanations of various ways energy can be/might be produced from fission.
