New gas powered electricity generating station wastes massive amounts of heat.

The original content of this post has been reworked as an article - please see what a waste.

The government has given permission for a very large gas powered electricity generating power station to go ahead according to the BBC news website.

Unfortunately they have decided yet again not to utilise the waste heat from the power station which could amount up to the equivalent amount of electrical energy used by the whole of Wales!

Our article gives more of the background and discusses some of the pros and cons.

Government new carbon dioxide reducing home incentive schemes planned.

The original content of this post has been reworked as an article - please see what a waste.

I was reading the Sunday Times Home section (15/2/2009) and came across an article called The Big Green Giveaway.
Apparent the government are planning to introduce new schemes (after a 12 week consultation) to encourage homeowners to move more quickly to install carbon dioxide reducing technologies.

Please see full article.

The BBC Horizon programme investigates the potential of fusion power to save the world from global warming.

The full content of this posting may be found in fusion power article.

Last night I watched my recording of Tuesday’s BBC2 Horizon programme on the progress of the development of fusion power(if you missed it watch it with iPlayer) . Professor Brian Cox has presented previous Horizon programmes on such topics as the structure and meaning of time. He has an unusual style which works quite well.

The basis of the programme was that we want to replace fossil fuel with other forms of energy production to prevent/slow global warming. Could that be fusion energy - the energy of the stars and the hydrogen bomb?

From what Brian Cox presented it may be a possibility but it certainly doesn’t look like we’ll be having domestic fusion power devices down the garden or in the cellar anytime soon!

Wordpress is now up and runing on EcoEnergyDIY.com.

As you can see, at last I have got Wordpress running on the live EcoEnergyDIY.com web site and have managed to configure it and integrate it into the web site proper.

It took some doing as I haven’t installed or managed wordpress before. I hope I haven’t left anything out that should be there for visitors or left anything in that is unnecessary or confusing!

I have created a special EcoEnergyDIY theme by modifying a combination of the classical and default themes and changing the style-sheet to suit the colour scheme of the EcoEnergyDIY.com web site.

I’d be interested to hear what you think of it.
